100 Miles Regional Juried Exhibition

Reception Sunday, June 4, 2 - 5 p.m.
Awards at 3 p.m.

Closed July 2 – 5

100 Miles showcases the diversity and quality of regional art and celebrate the artistic talent of artists working in a variety of media. One hundred and eight works of art by 101 emerging and established contemporary artists living within 100 miles of Williamsport, Pennsylvania are included.

The exhibition was juried by artist Elizabeth Gourlay. She wrote: "I tried to be as inclusive as possible to show the broad range of media...and to capture some of the wide range of voices coming forward from regional Pennsylvania. I see this exhibition as a microcosm of the art world at large, and of our whole culture."

PLAY: 31ST ANNUAL STRATHMORE JURIED EXHIBITION

Play is a pathway to connection, innovation, and renewal. We use play to sustain our creativity, build relationships, and cultivate a love of life. Play can be done in isolation or in groups. It means action in athletics, rehearsal, in music, and in drama; it is the material to be animated. Play works with restrained rules, or it can be the act of breaking rules. It can be formula and pattern, or it can be experimental and adaptive. Play transcends age and species, occurring shortly after birth and is observed in animals of the earth and ocean. We invite artists to “play” both in representation and in abstraction, but most significantly, in an enjoyable form. Strathmore Manison

I Choose, Therefore I am Project

I Choose, Therefore I am Project

I Choose, Therefore I am is a public art project created and curated by artist Rachelle LeBlanc. It will give artists working in fiber and textile-based materials, methods, and techniques a place to show their best work by expressing themselves through their perspective on how these changes affect their lives. These rights include the right to choose for herself, to live free from violence, discrimination from skin color, equal pay, reproductive rights, sexual rights, including the LGBTQ community, and exploitation, to name a few.

Where there is a choice, there is a voice to choose with complete liberty and freedom for oneself. This right is all-encompassing and is the heartbeat of Amnesty International's Women's Rights are Human Rights. What does this mean to you? How is this expressed through your art? This is your opportunity to show your work to the world and shout from the rooftops that women will no longer sit by while their rights get whittled away.

The piece will be on the website but not in the in-person exhibit.

Through the Mask: Conversations About Culture and Covid

  • The Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Gallery in the Fred Rodgers Institute (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Gallery is slated to debut its latest exhibition, “Through the Mask: Conversations About Culture and Covid,” on Thursday, November 10.

The exhibit features a juried selection of work by an international group of artists responding to the historical, cultural and scientific uses and meanings of masks and the effects of masking in contemporary society. A parallel digital exhibit including podcasts, oral histories, and interactive activities will also be unveiled on November 10. The McCarl Gallery exhibit and related activities are sponsored through a PA SHARP grant.

As the most ubiquitous symbol of the COVID-19 pandemic, the face mask has proven a crucial motif for artists looking to discuss contemporary social life. Artwork included in Through the Mask explores experiences of wearing a mask, concealing or “masking” deep emotions and revealing or “unmasking” demands for social change.

The exhibit includes pieces by the following 20 artists working across the United States, Canada, and Europe: Jess Logozo of Long Pond; Sarah Simmons of Pittsburgh; Evan Rumble of Pittsburgh; Caroline McAuliffe of Brooklyn, New York; Brooke Ali of Toronto, Canada; Pawel Pacholec of Gdansk, Poland; Etai Rogers-Fett of Arlington, Virginia; Trisha Gupta of Burtonsville, Maryland; Angel Ashleigh of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; Amuri Morris of Richmond, Virginia; Lex Marie of Arlington, Virginia; Lisa Stock of New York, New York; Hannah Bowden of Cardiff, United Kingdom; Iryna Calinicenco of Chișinău, Moldova; Moe Wakai of Los Angeles, California; Jo-Ann Morgan of Surfside Beach, California; Heather Schulte of Boulder, Colorado; Andrea Finch of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Cindy Morris of Hockessin, Delaware; and Danielle Festa of Dover, New Hampshire.

Through the Mask: Conversations about Masks and Masking is a project of the Foster and Muriel McCarl Gallery, the Saint Vincent College Department of History and the Public History and Digital Humanities Programs, sponsored through a grant from PA SHARP. The SHARP Grant was provided as part of the National Endowment for the Arts response to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, designed to explore and support humanities scholarship following the COVID pandemic.

Art in the Time of Corona - Online

The goal of this innovative project is to record and exhibit (in real-time) defining artwork created during civil uncertainty. The hope is to unite viewers and help them find the sanctity, comfort, and inspiration needed to heal a world in turmoil.

The Dab Art Co. moves into VOL.3 (Year 3) of the ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ global project. This 3 year-long comprehensive project will include an online exhibition, a full-color publication of all selected works, a multi-gallery international exhibition and a follow-up documentary film to our original project documentary (the film will be screened in Los Angeles).

Director and curator in chief Yessíca Torres wrote and released an essay about the importance of art and artists in a turbulent time. For almost 10 years Yessíca’s passion for contemporary art and commitment to the exploration of the artist process have been reflected in her gallery program, taking a progressive and in some ways rebellious approach to art exhibitions. Her mission with ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ proposes an unconventional solution to keeping contemporary art relevant, propelling the art experience forward, and promoting the valuable role artists will play in this time of global crisis.

The goal of this innovative project is to record and exhibit defining artwork created during civil uncertainty. Her hope is to unite viewers and help them find the sanctity, comfort, and inspiration needed to heal a world in turmoil.

We are hopeful as a company and as members of our respective communities, that when current mandates and quarantines are lifted, our resilience as artists will be the foundation for social unity.
